“You’ll want to hold on tighter than that. One slip up in the body slide process can be disastrous. I’d rather not tell you what it can do to the human body.”, Cable’s low tone informed her, reaching over his metal arm and wrapping it around her waist. His cool fingers settled on her hip, and his grip was firm yet gentle, letting her know he could handle her with ease. Pressing her closer against his form. He considered her words again, the plan. Dead or alive, either one worked for him. Just as long as the murderer was dealt with properly. The last thing mutantkind needed was a mutant serial killer proving humanity’s fears about them. Working alongside a SHIELD/Avengers member would be a good first step. Making sure they were close enough together, he nodded with satisfaction. “Much better.”
At last, he had Belle, the AI in his armored uniform begin the body slide process. In an instant they vanished from their original spot and reappeared at the proper coordinates on the New York docks, the waterfront, facing out to the distant Statue Of Liberty. They appeared among a crowd of civilian onlookers who were watching the crime scene SHIELD had set up, outside the tape. Instantly, they reacted in shock as a ripple of blue energy flashed and teleported the unusual looking pair among them. The crowd scattered immediately before the giant cyborg mutant and alluring SHIELD spy.
Cable took a moment to look around, noting the shocked crowd didn’t run away altogether, merely gave them as wide a berth as possible. Now watching and whispering among themselves about the pair’s sudden appearance at the crime scene. He could feel all of their eyes. With his powers he could hear and sense the buzz of their thoughts and feelings on the matter… smiling a bit to himself at a few of the thoughts. The SHIELD Agents around the crime scene appeared far less surprised by the sight of them, a couple of the agents waving them over. Cable kept his arm around the redhead, bracing her, just in case… looking down into her eyes with a bit of concern. Making sure she was alright.
“Still with me, Black Widow? Most people tend to lose their lunch after the first body slide. But then again, you aren’t most people.”
pressed to his side so unexpectedly, natasha wound her arms around his torso. after the wars she’d lived through, death by body slide would be an unpleasant surprise. and if he wasn’t half bad, then who would know ? ( she was convinced that he was 100% pure muscle, and he didn’t disappoint ).
and BOZHE MOI, he wasn’t lying when he said most would have gotten sick. she was stronger than most and had done more than most, and her legs have been reduced to jelly. ( she remembered now why she hated teleportation. ) leaning against him, she sucked in a deep breath.
“ i can’t say i’m a fan. tell me you get used to it. “ gesturing at the gathering, she continued, “ i’m going to need some help. “ with her head spinning like it never had before, she wasn’t going to risk walking alone.
“Most likely another telepath or telekinetic… like me. I could do the same thing to an enemy, stop their heart, if I were inclined. I prefer to kill someone with more dignity though.”, Cable’s low tone replied, contemplating the details she laid out for him, thinking aloud. At last her looked back the redhead’s way, eye glowing again, and he gestured to her absently with a metal hand. “I can teleport us to the scene of the last killing, if you wish. Get this investigation started. Study the evidence. I may be able to sense their psychic signature. Hopefully the body hasn’t been disturbed. We’ll find out who is behind this and stop them together. Do you want the killer or killers in a body bag or a SHIELD jail cell? How do you want to play this? I can go either direction.”
once, she would have said neither. she would have left their bodies for the dogs, a message for those who would come after.
but that was long ago, and natasha was a different woman, under a different law and serving a different people – a VERY different people, if his eye really did gleam like she was almost certain she’d seen.
“ preferably,a cell. we’ll need to examine them and see what we’re up against. they may not be the only of their kind out there. “ in her experience, teleportation was nasty and unreliable, but convenient, nonetheless. only a fool would turn it down, and as much as she didn’t trust the man before her, she knew he wasn’t lying about being an x-man. it was as plain as day, and his capability was something she admired in an ops partner. she didn’t know how his specific powers worked, but in her experience, touch got it done, so she laid a hand on his arm. “ we should go to the crime scene immediately before it gets any more contaminated. “
“Consider me a go between, Black Widow. I’m with X-Force more than I am the standard X-Men. When they need a problem solved or removed, they send someone who can handle it. Instead of sending out the whole team.”, Cable’s deep tone informed her, walking slowly over closer, eye flashing a brighter glowing yellow. His smile lingered, but his manner grew a shade more professional. Reaching her, towering over her, he met her eyes again, considering the attractive redhead for a moment, before continuing. “They figured you could use my assistance. Avengers or X-Men, I never bore a grudge the way most of the others do. No time for petty rivalries, more important problems in the world. An extra pair of hands never hurts. Especially a telepath’s hands. You need help on this, and you’re looking at it. What do you require of me?”
she’s not about to turn down good help for pride. besides, they might need someone super-powered doing some ground work. ( though telepaths aren’t high on her list or anyone’s, really; they have a nasty habit of discovering secrets. ) “ we’ve had a rash of killings. the victims are ordinary enough – they’re low-risk, people who won’t be missed or reported. but the evidence is wrong. these are impossible deaths. there’s no puncture wound, no stab wound; their hearts just stopped. it’s someone with powers, and since we can’t figure out the cause of death, we can’t risk any local forces. “
“ if you’re done admiring the view, what are you doing here, cable ? “ as flattering as it is, natasha didn’t come here to flirt. it’s business, and after the way the last meet-up with the x-men went, she’s not relishing another face-off with xavier’s mutants. “ i thought the avengers were working on this, not the x-men. “
I am a full-time student, so it's unlikely that I'll be terribly quick in replies. I'm warning you well in advance that when work piles up, I'm probably not going to be around here all that often. I also don't have that great of a memory, so if you think I've forgotten, just gently remind me. :)
I will be writing Natasha Romanoff as straight. That being said, I'm open to any ships within that. My OTP is Winterwidow, but I also enjoy pairing her with others. Come into my inbox or messages, and we can talk about it.
Even though I've reached the age of majority (18+), I won't be writing smut. I am, however, open to writing non-sexual NSFW stuff. Talk to me about it first, and I'm sure we can work it out.
I don't practice exclusivity, in shipping or otherwise. What I can do, however, is write some Spanish, so if you'd like to write in Spanish, just let me know and I'll do my best!
My background was made by the lovely Jay. My header was made by the incredible Ada. The dash icon is made by me. None of the RP icons are made by me, and all credit belongs to their respective creators.

“There's no such thing as a decision. There never was. There's whether you've had a good day or a bad day, there's going forward because there's nothing behind and running because if you stand still any longer you'll fall over. There's movement or there's stagnation, there's the past that drives you and the regimental chaplain who preaches that only the obedient are free and the men who say you have no feelings, but they can't live without you.”
- John le Carré

This is what I am now
One of the most valuable skills in espionage: the unteachable skill to belong anywhere. The other edge of what is the unfortunate truth: You must first belong nowhere.
